Win05 migration to Win06

By Matt Berry | August 19, 2008 @ 8:05 am

We have had major problems with the integrity and stability of the Win05 server. Late last night we began migrating all accounts, (including mail, databases, and content), to the new Win06 server. As of now we have already completed moving the backup of Plesk over to the new server. We are now proceeding with the content, then mail.

It is not necessary for you to change your nameservers to the new server, we have pointed the Win05 nameservers to the Win06 server.

However, if you do point your A record directly to this server you will need to change the IP address to:

69.4.237.98

Update: 8/19/08 6:00pm - As of now we are copying over content from the win05 server to the new server. There is a very large amount of content and mail to be moved, for that it is not really possible to provide an exact eta. Mail on this server is working and is back to normal. We are restoring accounts alphabetically by domain names. We have created new directories up to the letter P on this server, the rest of the domain directories will be created tonite. As of now though we are begining to bring back domains on this server and they do seem to be resolving properly.

Update: 8/20/08 9am - Currently we have created domain directories up to the domains starting with “S.” Once the directories are fully created for all domains we then will move all content from the Win05 backup to these directories on Win06. This must be done this way to keep the integrity of the Win06 server. We can, however, restore accounts outside of the Alphabetical domain restore, so please feel free to email us or call us requesting that your domain be restored, and we can do this for you.

Update: 8/20/08 6pm - We have been able to restore many domains so far today, however, we must now initiate the mass migration of all other accounts on the win05 server over to the new Win06 server. This means, we will need to move all the accounts alphabetically. There is not a way anymore to restore accounts out of this order. This will be copying over until it completes. Unfortunately, I am unable to provide an eta on when this will complete. We will be repairing the websites as they are restored.

Update: 8/21/08 1am - Update- Currently the transfer of domain directories that begin with the letter “J” are copying to the new server.

Update: 8/21/08 10am - The migration of content has completed, we are now repairing sites on the server. If you see your site getting a user/password prompt please submit us a ticket, we can get this repaired for you right away. After we have completed the majority of website fixes, we will then begin with the migration of mail from the old win05 server.

Once again, I do appreciate your continued patience, and do fully sympathize with all of you in regards to this.

This server is currently down and is running a checkdisk. We do not have an exact ETA on when this server will be back up but we will update you when we have more information.

Update: 8/18/08 8:45am- This server is currently completing a secondary checkdisk. We are very sorry for the inconvenience of this server not being accessible. Once the checkdisk completes performing, we will work to bring this back and functional.

Update: 8/18/08 9:45am- We are currently on step two of the file system check on this server. Unfortunately, I am unable to provide a solid eta based on this information as to when this will be back online. However, we are keeping a very close eye on this server, and we will immediately repair any issues on this server once it is accessible. I will also be posting hourly on the status of this server.

Update: 8/18/08 12:32pm- Win05 is accessable by us now, we are now in the server looking to see what the cause to the current issue is. We will update again very shortly with what we find.

Update: 8/18/08 3:33pm- We are still working on this server. We have found corruption in the IIS areas of this server, and the database for Plesk. Once we have gotten these issues repaired we will have a better idea of when this server will be back online.Update:

8/18/08 9:00pm- It has been a while since our last post I am very sorry for that. We are trying to check the integrity of this server and the Plesk backups. We will be continually updating this post with more information.

Update: 8/18/08 9:00pm- We are currently beginning to restore accounts from the win05 server to the new win06 server. We have recovered email, database, and content backups for this server. There will also be no need to change your nameservers as we are now pointing the old win05 nameservers to win06. We will continue to update this blog if we encounter any issues, and with our progress.

Update: 8/19:08 3:00am- We have pointed the nameservers to win06 and are currently in the process of copying accounts over. Thank you very much for your continued patience.
